21 – 23 May 2021 Discon in the Mountain Kingdom in the Sky. Although this event will be largely on line because of Covid, some members from our club will be attending in person. What a treat!
















At last things are starting to happen again and the Rotary Club of Kenton on Sea is very excited to be taking part in the Great Kenton Wine Festival on the 19th and 20th of March. Although this is not a Rotary project, we are very grateful to the organisers ( from The Karoo Wine Club Stoepfees) for including us as participants. We have 3 events planned over these two days and invite you to join us there. Tickets are still available for the Lapa event and for the High Tea.













2 November 2020:  the Rotary Club of Kenton on Sea is very much looking forward to DG Maud’s visit tomorrow evening. We hope she will be able to visit us in reality in due course.














20 October 2020: Join us at the Dias Angling Club at 5 – 5:30pm to celebrate the eradication of the wild polio virus in Africa. PDG Greg Cryer will be sharing his moving story and will be followed by fellowship and a light Boerie Roll meal (R30). All donations towards the eradication of Polio worldwide will be gratefully received. The wild virus is now endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan. This is due in great measure to the initiative started in 1988 by Rotary at a time when around 350 000 children annually were being infected by this cruel disease. 2020 Garden Competition: Calling all gardeners – the Spring has sprung and rain is on the way. Join us in our annual garden competition . All sorts of categories, including vegetables, pavement, large and small.

28 December The Rotary Club of Kenton on Sea will be hosting one of our favourite entertainers, Duck Chowles, with Joe van der Linde, at the Kenton Town hall. Join us for an evening of great music and lots of fun










28 October 2019: SANBS will be in town again. We support this event by raising awareness in the community, advertising, making sure the venue is ready and providing refreshments for the staff.







22 October 2019: 24 October is World Polio Day. We shall be celebrating this with a Fondue for Polio evening to which we are inviting our Friends of Rotary. This is a year in which Nigeria has been declared WVPV free for 3 years which means Africa may very soon be declared Polio free – a huge milestone.








19 October 2019:  Our Earlyacters are having a car wash fundraiser from 8:30 to 12:30 at the Kenton Primary School.







12 October 2019: AG Mike Peter has arranged a fun day/ overnight for all 4 of the District 9370 group N clubs (Grahamstown, Grahamstown Sunset, Port Alfred and Kenton) at Assegaai Trails. Starting at Rock Bottom, we’ll walk ( those who can!) back to the centre to share lunch and a Musical Quiz. Some members will be staying over to extend the fun and fellowship of Rotary.

6 September: We’re holding a Lunch to celebrate Women’s lunch. This will be at the Continental Deli “Upstairs” venue at 12:00.


And the Annual Garden Competition is on the go – entries to be submitted by 20 September 2019.













11 October 2019: The Rotary Club of Kenton on Sea will be hosting Garry Botha’s Tribute to Neil Diamond in the Continental Deli “Upstairs” centre. This promises to be an evening of sheer fun, memories and music. Funds raised will be going to the Rotary Foundation (Google: The Rotary Foundation)











15 September 2019: It’s Rhino Run time again and Kenton on Sea is one of only 4 places in the country where you can take part and show your support. Join The Rotary Club of Kenton on Sea at Homewood’s on the Kariega River for your bacon and egg rolls and pancakes – the best in the business! Funds go to our community projects.







1 September 2019 sees our club hosting the annual Pigeon race to raise funds for Hospice.

23 Dec 2018: The Rotary Club of Kenton on Sea invites you to a wonderful musical evening with Duck Chowles and Joe van der Linden. There are some great items on offer and proceeds from the evening will be going to our local community projects.













23 October: The Rotary Club of Kenton on Sea invites you to join them for a Fondue Evening to celebrate the Rotary End Polio Now Campaign. Started in 1988 when there were around 350 000 cases of polio in children under the age of 5, this campaign has almost eradicated this dread disease. To date this year there have only been 19 Wild Polio Virus cases. That is why the campaign has to continue the momentum until that wild virus is completely gone. Until then….. the world is still at risk. Proceeds for this event will go to the Rotary International campaign.









3 October 2018: In preparation for our annual Seniors’ Tea, a work party took place to put together  goody bags for the residents of Huis Dias in Alexandria. Many thanks to the makers of delicious short bread, date and chocolate square,  to Rotarian Mike Wilmot for the chocolate Peanut bars and Rotarian Hayley Howard for the special hand creams which all went into these bags. The Tea takes place on Saturday 6th October.















1 October 2018: SANBS is coming to town again on Monday, 1 October. Where: Kenton Town Hall   Time:  10h00 to 13h00. let’s spread the word and get everyone there. We did very well on their last visit and it’s something we’d like to grow so tell your friends, your staff and make this really good.

5 September 2018: Spring has sprung, we’ve had wonderful rain and it’s time to get the garden gloves out!  The Rotary Club of Kenton on Sea  invites you to collect your Entry Forms to take part in our Annual Spring Garden Competition. The event is open to everyone in our community and includes vegetable gardens, small and large gardens, pavement specials – you name it – you can enter it! Forms are available at Buco, Build It, The Red Apple and the Tourism Office and need to be handed back to one of those outlets by 20 October. Happy Planting!

The Rotary Club of Kenton on Sea is supporting this event again and will be providing marshalls, breakfasts and lots of encouragement to all our friends to take part – walkers are welcome, so no excuses that you can’r run!

27 December 2017: As a change from the Annual Rotary Cocktail party of the last few years, the Rotary Club of Kenton on Sea will be supporting the Night Shift Street Market on Wednesday, 27 December. Join us in the Kenton Town Hall for a fun evening of music provided by Kevin Abraham and “Folkify”. A Cash Bar will be available and the food stalls at the Street Market, or the Kenton Garage Cafe will provide a tasty snack. Rotary will also be holding its annual Auction, proceeds from which will, as always, go to our local community projects. Tickets are on sale at the Kenton Tourism Office at R 120 pp. Tables of 10. 24 October 2017 is World Polio Day. Our Club will be celebrating with a World’s Greatest Meal dinner for the Rotary END Polio Now campaign. Tickets are available at Kenton News Agency at R 165 pp. The evening begins at 6pm at the Dias Angling Club, Kenton on Sea. Funds raised will go to the Rotary Foundation where the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will meet our amount and increase it by 2:1 US dollars. Since 1985, the eradication of Polio worldwide has been one of the major Rotary International initiatives and, to date, the wild poliovirus now exists only in 3 countries – Afghanistan, Pakistan and possibly Nigeria…… BUT – until it has been wiped out everywhere, it is only a plane or train trip away. Mankind has only ever wiped out one other disease – Small Pox. Join us on the 24th October and help us put an end to Polio.



26 September 2017: Guess where Rotary Kenton is going today? We’re off to share a speaker meeting and fellowship with the Rotary Club of Port Alfred, followed by the River and Ski Boat Club’s renowned Fish and Chips!! Rotary having fun!!


he Rotary Club of Kenton on Sea invites you to take part in its Annual Spring Garden/ Vegetable Garden Competition. That’s right –Spring has almost sprung and it’s that time of year again… so on with the gardening gloves, bring out the compost and flex those digging muscles – it’s time to plant!!

The competition will commence on 1 September with judging planned during the week of 6 – 12 November and a fun prize giving evening on 21 November.

Three categories of garden have been identified: Pavement Garden, Vegetable Garden and General Garden and areas of evaluation will cover Kenton/Merry Hill, Bushman’s River Mouth/ Riversbend, Ekuphumleni, Marselle and Klipfontein.

Entry forms are available at Build-It, Buco and the Kenton Tourism Office.

Over 400 people, world class speakers, fellowship, breakaway sessions, bicycles, song and dance, banquets, awards, more fellowship, fantastic decor, more fellowship, great food, amazing people from all over the District – and an incredible team who put it all together. And on top of all that RI President John Germ sent us the best RIPPR in Rotary – Geeta Manek from Narobi, Kenya. 25 to 27 May 2017 The Rotary Club of Kenton on Sea is hosting a Conference! Travel safely and the Rotary Clubs of Kenton on Sea, Grahamstown, Grahamstown Sunset and Port Alfred are waiting to greet you. We’re going to have fun this week-end!


Tomorrow, Monday 12 December, is the day to start looking for the Rotary Kenton Tree of Joy outside Sunshine Spar in the Kenton main street. This project affords us all the opportunity of making someone else’s Christmas just that little bit brighter. Any contribution you make will make a difference in someone’s life – let’s be generous and remember to spread good cheer.

DG Bruce will be in Rustenburg for the official launch where he hopes to see for himself the main role players in the form of Sue Paget and members of the Dept of Health.

Rotary Family Health Days are coming up on 7 October at Kenton Town Hall and 8 October at the Marselle Town Hall. The focus this year is on eye screening. We have been given a donation of around 100 pairs of new readers, but if you have any, in good condition, which you no longer use, we would be delighted to receive them!

The Rotary Club of Kenton on Sea will be supporting their EarlyAct Club from Kenton Primary School on Friday evening when they hold a               Kenton Primary School’s Got Talent Show. Good luck to all participants!


The annual Rhino Run, which our Club supports 100%, is taking place this week-end. It is an event which is growing in strength from year to year and really making a difference through our Club’s partners at Chipembere Rhino Foundation. Amazing things are happening in the fight against poaching and support from both ourselves and the public at large are making possible the training of more K9 anti poaching units , as well as something like the rhino hospital pictured below. Our club member, Jo Wilmot is keeping this banner proudly raised  – go Jo!!

Our Club is looking forward to meeting Rotarian John Glassford originally from Kenya, but now from Australia, whose tireless efforts have resulted in the creation of RAGES – a Rotary Action Group for Endangered Species. This means that the whole Rotary world is supporting conservation, specifically to put an end to the poaching of rhino, elephant and mountain gorilla, but more generally to create awareness of our environment and the need to look after this wonderful world. he will be staying with members of our Club and will be the guest of honour at a supper to be held on Friday 8 May. Our member Jo Wilmot is the worldwide project manager in Rotary for this initiative.


Another inbound RFE, this time from Houston, Texas, started on 23 March for four nights. A great time had by everyone – well done to Bridget and Roger Carthew for planning a great trip!

21 April is our birthday so be ready to get out your party hats to celebrate our success as a club! It’s a Build a Burger evening ….

16 April sees our next Teachers’ Workshop taking place. The subject this time is ‘counselling’. Teachers are trained in all sorts of subjects, but never in how to deal with the emotional/ psychological needs of the children in their classrooms.

22 April is a very important date for the Interact Club of iKamvalesizwe Combined Scool, Kenton on Sea.They are to be presented with their Charter – great news!
